PhD Student position

(Closes on 15/06/2022)

A highly enthusiastic PhD student is required to work at the Thermal and Electrical Systems Laboratory at Universitat Jaume I (Castellón, Spain) for the regional project “Improving heat-to-electricity energy conversion with thermoelectric materials by means of electrochemical strategies (Electrothermical)”.

Contract terms

Full time (37.5 h/week) fixed term contract of 4 years, with a gross salary of 1,100 €/month, approximately, during the first 3 years. The fourth year the salary will be of 1,350 €/month, approximately. Starting date of the contract will be the 16th of September 2022 (if not possible to start at this date due to delays in obtaining a visa, starting date could be the 1st of January 2023).

An additional stipend of 1600 € could be available to cover travel and settlement expenses.

Main tasks

Main research tasks involve:
-the fabrication of devices combining nanostructured and porous thermoelectric films with electrolytes.
-the determination of the thermoelectric properties and the heat-to-electricity energy conversion efficiency of these devices.
-the electrochemical characterisation of the devices by means of electrochemical methods (impedance spectroscopy, voltammetry).

Other common research tasks:
-engage in collaborative activities with collaborators.
-be involved in dissemination and outreach activities (e.g. conferences, workshops, etc.).
-drafting scientific articles under guidance.
-prepare results/reports.

Essential criteria (do not apply if you do not fulfil this)

-To have a degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Physics, Materials Engineering or equivalent.
-The degree should have been completed in a university or institution from a country not belonging to the European Union. The date of completion of the degree should be later than 1st January 2017.
-Candidates should not have completed a PhD.
-A good English level is required.

Desirable criteria

-Good degree qualifications.
-To have completed or being involved in a related master’s degree.
-To have previous research experience (e.g. participation in research projects, scientific publications, conferences, research stays, etc.).

Experience on one or some of the following areas, although not essential, will be beneficial:
-Knowledge and experience on the preparation of nanostructured and porous films.
-Knowledge and experience on thermal systems and devices.
-Knowledge and experience on thermoelectric materials and devices.
-Knowledge and experience on electrochemistry, especially on the use of electrochemical techniques (impedance spectroscopy, voltammetry, etc.).

The following attitudes are also highly desirable:
-High interest in acquiring new knowledge and learning the research topic.
-Right work attitude, following good practices and the established health and safety regulations.
-To work independently and as part of a team, maintain the working areas clean and tidy, take care of tools and instrumentation, etc.
-To be enthusiastic and proactive, and not only stick to perform the basic tasks.

How to apply

Interested candidates please submit your CV with a short cover letter (no longer than an A4 page) indicating why you are a good candidate for this position to teslab@uji.es. You can also contact this email if you require further information.
